On the 10th of January, in the glorious and far-off year 49 B.C., contrary to the law that he had to stay there with his army after the conquest of Gaul, proconsul Gaius Julius Caesar, with one Legion and 300 horsemen, crossed the border that ran along the Rubicon river and moved the army to Rome. There was no resistance. Caesar easily took possession of Rome and Italy.

His political opponents, United around gnaeus Pompey, fled to Epirus. Caesar became a dictator for life, but his life, as you know, was not long. Five years later, on March 15, you know - " and you are Brutus!"and 23 wounds. But that was all five years later, and today Caesar crossed the Rubicon. And the painting... well, this is "Caesar crosses the Rubicon" by Francesco Granacci-an Italian master who commissioned Lorenzo de ' Medici participated in the painting of Florence's San Marco, and then worked with Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael. With Michelangelo, by the way, he painted the Sistine chapel.

And you can look at the picture for a long time, wondering why everything is in armor and where is Caesar.
