When I start to tell some stories about artists, it always seems to me that it is impossible to tell anything at all. It is easier to tell starting from some one work. Let me try sometimes to tell something in the category "art History" in this way.

And let me start with Luini Bernardino and one and his " Madonnas." And the point here is that this artist is not just a master about whom you can write some standard things. Ah about how, where was born, have whom studied under, who influenced on him and on whom then he, in any styles worked. Ah, understandable after all about than I, Yes? Well, about Luini Bernardino to tell something like this is simply impossible. And this despite the fact that after Leonardo, he can be called the most significant artist of the Renaissance. But no one knows anything about him for sure. Can you imagine? About one of the most brilliant artists of this dull world, though written a couple of hundred studies and since the 19th century in its history really pick fine art critics, but... But no one knows where and when he was born and when he started working.

It is believed that his early works are in the late Gothic style, but this is only considered. And so – who knows, until the moment he became a pupil of Leonardo about him nothing is known. Yes and after... Ah Only the, that he, apparently, was Milan DoppelgangeR benozzo Gozzoli. Yes, most likely Luini worked in Milan. And in Lugano, Saronno, and Chiaravalle. Again-most likely. According to local legends, which at some point for some reason became part of solid art studies, he was a very prolific artist. And judging by the fact that he created a huge number of frescoes and paintings, we can assume that he was the owner of a thriving Studio. But Yes, not only education and early creativity Luini still cause a lot of controversy. There on each point continuous questions. That is, for example, the hypothesis of the young Bernardino's journey to Florence and Rome and his contacts with Raphael, is based only on the fact that the greatest, but sometimes, so to speak, too bold in his assumptions, the researcher of the Renaissance, Mr. longi attributed to him a copy of the "Situation in the tomb" from the gallery Borghese. But apart from Longa's suggestion, there is no evidence that Bernardino executed the copy. And so – with almost everything. Well, that is, it seems controversial and the authorship of the painting "Madonna with saints", dated 1507 and signed "Bemardinus Mediolanesis".

Oh, Yes, I forgot. Verney wanted to say, but forgot. In General, there are from this circle of uncertainty and exceptions – here, for example, the fresco "Madonna with angels", painted in the monastery of Chiaravalle in 1512 in the Lombard tradition of Foppa and Bergognone and with features of Leonard's sfumato, is the only accurate early work of his. But-moving on. With his later works, everything is a little bit better. There it is possible to speak with confidence about the authorship, simply because no one could but him to write it. That is, literally, in fact, his works, narrative, with plastic rhythms, Dating back to Bramantino, all these cycles of frescoes in the chapel of the Corpus Domini of the Church of San Giorgio al Palazzo, in the chapel of San Giuseppe of the Church of Santa Maria della Pace and in the Villa Rabbia Alla Pelucca – it's all absolutely incredible in its beauty and composition of the work and there is no doubt-it's definitely Bernardino. Although, there are no signatures on them.

And at the same time he writes a large series of "Madonnas", in fact, thanks to which he became famous. And especially in the romantic environment of the 19th century. The truth is, because just trying to remember those that I like the most, I remembered "Madonna with carnation", "Madonna of the vine", "Madonna with two babies", "Madonna with John the Baptist" and finally confused. Their truth very many and all they are beautiful. And although they are completely leonardian in their iconography, but they are completely unique in brushstroke and smoothness and their authorship can not be doubted. As in the date of his death Bernardino and that his business was continued by his sons — Aurelio and Giovanni Pietro.

But – that's another story. And you-enjoy. Luini Bernardino, Madonna and child.
